Belgian Disability Forum

For the PS Franco Seminara emphasizes the wealth that lies in the differences between people.

There are 60 million people with disabilities in Europe. This is therefore a large social group. Yet it is not always easy to visualise people with disabilities as a social group.

In the interests of democracy, he calls on people with disabilities to vote. They should also commit themselves where possible. According to him, there are not yet enough advisory councils for people with disabilities.

Europe needs more democracy and European policies should be designed on the basis of a needs register.

Contrary to some prevailing ideas, people with disabilities do not cost society: they too are part of the economic process. For example, the wheelchair used by a person with a disability must also be produced. Disability also plays a role in the economy. Mr Seminara said that it would be a good idea to draw up a European 'Marshall Plan'.
