CRC: the text


The International Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) consists of 54 articles.

The BDF would like to draw particular attention to the following articles:

 

  • 1: The definition of a child: a person under 18 years of age ...
  • 2: Non-discrimination
  • 3: The priority interest of the child
  • 4: The commitment of States Parties to implement the rights protected by the Convention on the Rights of the Child
  • 6: The child's right to life, survival and development
  • 12: The right of the child to express his or her opinion and the guarantee that this will be taken into account
  • 13: The right of the child to use any form of expression of his or her choice (oral, written, artistic, etc.)
  • 16: The right to privacy
  • 18: The right to be raised by the parents. The government must support parents if necessary.
  • 19: Protecting the child against all forms of violence, abuse and neglect
  • 20: Protection of children deprived of their family environment
  • 22: Protection and assistance of refugee children
  • 23: Full and decent life for children with disabilities: dignity, autonomy and active participation in community life
  • 28: The right to education
  • 29: The purpose of education
  • 31: The right to play, rest and relaxation
  • 41: Application of the most favourable provision: if the laws of a country provide better protection of the rights of the child than the articles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the applicable national laws shall be the laws of that country.
