NHCPD - National High Council for Persons with Disabilities

Level of power

Composition

20 members, appointed by the King for 6 years, on the recommendation of the Minister who is competent for matters regarding persons with disabilities in the federal government.

Goals

  • Rationalising and coordinating the legal and regulatory provisions that have an impact on the life of persons with disabilities and that fall under the competence of the federal government.
  • Examining the problems persons with disabilities experience in the context of matters that fall under the competence of the federal government.
  • Giving advice or making proposals regarding these problems to the competent Ministers.

A historical partnership

The NHCPD was the first historical "partner" of the Belgian Disability Forum (BDF).

Every two months, the Bureaus of the BDF and the NHCPD meet in a "Common Bureau" to exchange information on their respective actions and to develop their actions in a coherent way.

Regularly, the NHCPD and the BDF take common positions in favour of a better inclusion of all persons with disabilities in all the domains that fall under the competence of the federal government.
