Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment

The Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 10 December 1984. The Convention entered into force on 26 June 1987, i.e. the 30th day after it had been ratified by a 20th State.

The Convention is an international rights instrument promoting human rights, adopted in order to prevent torture around the world.
Belgium ratified the Convention on 25 June 1999.
